An enthusiastic young man Mr. Dhian Singh from Kapurthala (Punjab), pioneered research on history of Megh Bhagat community in the backdrop of emergence and evolution of Kabir Panth in Punjab. This was very important from the point of view that his work helps in reconstruction of history of Dalit communities which has been destroyed and corrupted. Researcher Dr. Dhian Singh and director of this research work Dr. Seva Singh have, within the limitations, put in tireless efforts using research methodologies while pursuing intensive study, visits and interviews. Use of libraries for research work is a common thing. Dr. Dhian Singh undertook intensive touring of Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan at his own expense. His hard work together with diligence of his Director helped his thesis through for Ph.D degree in the year 2008.
For the past two years I had been requesting Dr. Singh to help make his thesis on line for the benefit of others. Now on 08-02-2011 he gave me his thesis which was scanned and blogged. It is in the form of PDF file. To make it easy to read please press ‘ctrl’ and +.
I hope that, now, the desire of Meghs will be satiated with regard to their eternal questions as to who they are, who were their ancestors and what they used to do.
This thesis will help change the conventional thinking of Megh community which has been divided in so many names and religions that their social and political integration seems to be a distant dream. This thesis will help the community grow a sense of unity.

कपूरथला (पंजाब) के एक उत्साही युवक ध्यान सिंह ने पंजाब ने कबीर पंथ के उद्भव और विकास की पृष्ठभूमि में मेघ भगत समुदाय के इतिहास पर शोध करने का बीड़ा उठाया था. यह कार्य बहुत महत्वपूर्ण इसलिए था कि जिन दलित समुदायों का इतिहास नष्ट-भ्रष्ट किया जा चुका हो उनका इतिहास कैसे लिखा जाए. शोध के लिए पुस्तकालयों का उपयोग करना एक सामान्य बात है. शोधछात्र के तौर पर ध्यान सिंह ने और उनके निर्देशक डॉ सेवा सिंह, डी.लिट्. ने शोध सामग्री को देखते हुए विचार-विमर्ष के बाद मान्य पद्धतियों (methodologies) की सीमाओं में रहते हुए गहन अध्ययन के अतिरिक्त यात्रा और साक्षात्कार का सहारा लेने का निर्णय लिया. ध्यान सिंह जी ने इसके लिए जम्मू-कश्मीर, पंजाब, हरियाणा और राजस्थान के दौरे किए. उनके परिश्रम और निर्देशक के मार्गदर्शन से कार्य बखूबी हुआ और शोधग्रंथ वर्ष 2008 में पी.एच.डी. की डिग्री के लिए स्वीकार कर लिया गया. यह अपनी तरह का पहला कार्य है.
मैं दो-एक वर्ष से डॉ ध्यान सिंह से आग्रह कर रहा था कि वे अपने शोधग्रंथ को अन्य के लाभ के लिए ऑन-लाइन करें. अब 08-02-2011 को उन्होंने यह शोधग्रंथ मुझे सौंपा और मैंने उसकी स्कैनिंग कराने के बाद उसे एक ब्लॉग का रूप दे दिया.
मुझे आशा है कि अब हमारे मेघ भाइयों की यह जिज्ञासा शांत हो जाएगी कि हम कौन हैं, कहाँ से आए हैं और हमारे पुरखे क्या करते थे.
सब से बढ़ कर यह शोधग्रंथ मेघ भगत समुदाय की पारंपरिक सोच को बदलने में सहायक होगा जिसे इतने नामों और धर्मों में बाँट दिया गया है कि उनमें सामाजिक और राजनीतिक एकता दूर का सपना लगती है. इसे पढ़ने के बाद इस समुदाय में एकता की भावना बढ़ेगी.
